Barbara Banthien Paintings

"I have had a longtime fascination, even reverence for birds. Flying past my studio window, seeing them in the sky, there is something otherworldly about the creatures to me. Feathers and wings, beauty and grace, by nature elusive, they excite me to paint."- Barbara Banthien

Terry Sauve Oil Painting en Plein Air

Painting the landscape, for me, is the process of enticing a scene to emerge and reveal itself on the canvas. Rather than focusing on the result, I allow myself to fully enjoy this process of creation. Every painting is a chance to explore and discover something new—about painting, the natural world and myself. Painting en plein air allows me to see, feel and respond to the scene viscerally and intuitively.

Bruce Mitchell Sculpture

Bruce Mitchell has been working with wood for over four decades. He is widely known for his lathe-turned vessels, sculptural tables, benches and other forms. All of the material he uses comes from salvaged logs and stumps of trees from northern California.

Nancy Stein Soft Pastels

"What I seek in painting waves is something that the human being knows but the camera lens misses. It has something to do with movement and the sheer brevity of the form. It’s the way walking by the sea will transform a bad mood."-Nancy Stein

Molly Prier Pit Fired Vessels

"I make pottery to create beauty that people use every day. Pottery is very intimate - a cup or bowl is touched as well as seen; it becomes part of one's life: the everyday sacred. The spirit of my eyes and hands is given to another." - Molly Prier

Steven Markoff Gouache en Plein Air

Steven Markoff lives in a barn/studio on a farm in Marshall, California that raises organic cattle and sheep above Tomales Bay which is between Point Reyes and Bodega Bay, centrally located to so much beautiful country. He works in a direct and reverential way, taking his inspiration from nature. Now familiar to the seasons and the colors they bring, he feels lucky to find continual interest and revelation in the area's unique landscape.
